Controlling Home Appliance using LDR and Arduino

In this project, we are going to learn about LDR and LDR Module and how to control light based of darkness outside in your home. When darkness will come in your home, light will turn on automatically. This is very simple project. I am focusing of elimination of darkness in your room. You can use this as an emergency lighting system.

  • 1 channel relay module
  • LDR module

Explanation to making Home Appliance: –

Step-1: – connect to LDR module with arduino uno

LDR is one kind of photoresistor and light dependent resistor that is sensitive of light. When light falls upon it then the resistance changes. Values of the resistance of the LDR may be change over many orders of magnitude the value of the resistance falling as the level of light increases.

  • VCC: Power supply
  • GND: Ground
  • D0: Digital Output
  • A0: Analog Output

Step-2: connect the 1 channel relay module to arduino

Relay is one kind of electrically operated switch. Many relays use an electromagnet to mechanically operate a switch, but other operating principles are also used, such as solid-state relays. The relay has two different types of electrical contacts inside – normally open (NO) and normally closed (NC). The one you use will depend on whether you want the 5V signal to turn the switch on or turn the switch off. The 120-240V supply current enters the relay at the common (C) terminal in both configurations. To use the normally open contacts, use the NO terminal. To use the normally closed contacts, use the NC terminal.

How it’s works: –

LDR sensor module is used to detect the intensity of light. It is associated with both analog output pin and digital output pin named as AO and DO respectively. When light is presented, the resistance of LDR become low according to the intensity of light. The sensor presents a potentiometer knob that can be adjusted to change the sensitivity of LDR towards light. Relay module is connected to the lamp. When darkness will come in outside, the relay will operate and the light will turn on automatically and other side light is presented, the relay will not operate and light will turn off automatically. This project is very useful for home appliance.
